A Murphy bed is a cabinet, a lift mechanism and a mattress that has to come down smoothly every night. The cabinet has to go together dead square, the springs or pistons are under real tension, and the whole unit has to be lag-bolted into the wall studs before the bed is ever lowered.

Wall bed kits arrive as dozens of panels and a mechanism box. The order matters: cabinet first, then anchoring, then the mechanism, then the bed frame and mattress. Done in that order, it lifts evenly and closes flush.
