Door Handle and Knob Replacement
Door hardware is the thing you touch fifty times a day and notice only when it stops working. A handle that turns but doesn't retract the latch, a knob that spins loose no matter how many times you tighten the set screw, a door you have to lift and lean on before the bolt will go home. Most of it is a worn spring, a loose spindle, or a strike plate an eighth of an inch out of line.
We replace handles, knobs and levers, fit deadbolts and smart locks, and sort out the hinges, latches and strike plates that decide whether any of it works. Bring your own hardware or tell us what you want and we'll say what fits your door. One flat price agreed before we come out, and the packaging leaves with us.
What's Included
Everything Included in Our Service
Fitted square, aligned to the frame, and tested before we leave.
All Tools and Bits
Hole saws, chisels, spade bits and lock jigs come with us. Nothing to buy, nothing to borrow.
Aligned, Not Forced
Latch, strike plate and hinges set so the door closes with a push instead of a shoulder.
Keys Tested Before We Go
Every lock cycled locked and unlocked from both sides, with the door open and shut.
Old Hardware Taken Away
The hardware that came off, and the boxes the new set came in, leave with us.
Handles & Knobs
Handle, Knob and Lever Replacement
Replacing a door knob looks like a ten minute job until the new set doesn't match the old bore, the spindle is the wrong length for a thicker door, or the backset is 2 3/8 inches and the hardware is built for 2 3/4. We carry the bits to bore and adapt, so a handle replacement doesn't turn into a new door. If yours is only sticking, a knob repair is often a spring and a spindle rather than a whole new set, and we'll tell you which one you're looking at before we charge you for parts.
- Knobs, levers and handle sets swapped like for like, or bored fresh where the door has never had hardware
- Kwikset, Schlage, Baldwin, Emtek, Defiant and the big-box brands, plus whatever you have already bought
- Fixing door knobs that spin, stick or rattle: worn springs, stripped set screws, loose spindles and sagging latches
- Passage, privacy, dummy and keyed sets, matched across the house so everything turns the same way
- Lever handles fitted for accessibility, including doors that need a lower or reversed handing
How a Door Hardware Visit Goes
Send a photo
A photo of the door and the current hardware, plus what you want instead. If you've already bought the set, a picture of the box tells us most of it.
Get a flat price
One number for the visit, agreed before we come out. No hourly clock and no trip charge bolted on afterwards.
We fit and align
Hardware in, latch and strike plate set, hinges checked, and the door adjusted so it closes properly rather than just closing.
Tested and cleaned up
Every lock cycled from both sides, keys handed over, old hardware and packaging gone.
Already have the hardware sitting in the box? Text us a photo of it and the door and we can usually give you a date and a price today.
Deadbolts & Locks
Deadbolt Installation and Door Lock Replacement
New place, old tenant, lost key, or a lock that has simply worn out. We fit new deadbolts and replace door locks throughout the house, including doors that have never had a deadbolt and need boring for one. Single and double cylinder, standard and mortise, and keyed alike across the house so one key opens the front, back and side doors.
Deadbolt installation
Fitted into an existing bore or cut fresh, with the strike mortised into the jamb so the bolt throws fully.
Changing the locks on a house
Every exterior door done in one visit, keyed alike, with enough keys cut for the household.
Mortise and commercial locks
Mortise lock installation and commercial lock replacement for older homes, shops and offices.
If you want the existing locks rekeyed rather than replaced, say so when you send the photo and we'll tell you straight away whether it's a job for us or one for a locksmith.
Smart Locks
Smart Lock and Keypad Deadbolt Installation
Keyless entry is the one upgrade people actually notice every day, and it is also the one most often left half finished in the box because the door needs adapting. We handle smart door lock installation end to end: the mechanical fit, the alignment so the motor isn't fighting a tight bolt, and the setup and test on your phone before we leave.
The brands people buy
Schlage keypad deadbolts, Yale and Nest x Yale, August, Level, SimpliSafe, Kwikset Halo and Aura.
Fitted so the motor lasts
A smart bolt dies early on a misaligned strike. We set the plate first so it throws freely, then fit the lock.
Set up and handed over
Paired, codes created, auto-lock set how you want it, and tested from both sides of the door.
Digital, keypad and keyless door lock installation on wood and metal doors. Tell us the model and we'll confirm it fits your door before you buy it.
Hinges & Strike Plates
Door Hinge, Latch and Strike Plate Installation
Most doors that won't latch don't need a new lock. They need the hinges or the strike plate moved. Installing door hinges properly means mortising them flush so the door hangs square in the frame, and a strike plate installation is the difference between a door that shuts and one that has to be slammed. We do the unglamorous half of door hardware that makes the rest of it work.
Hinges fitted and mortised
Attaching hinges to a door square and flush, replacing bent or painted-shut hinges, and adding a third hinge to a sagging heavy door.
Strike and latch plates
Strike plate and latch plate installation, moved and re-mortised where the door has dropped or the frame has shifted.
Springs and spindles
Door handle spring replacement and replacement springs for handles that flop down instead of returning level.
Security strike plates with three inch screws into the framing are a cheap upgrade worth doing while we are already at the door.
Cabinet Hardware
Cabinet Knobs, Pulls and Soft-Close Hinges
While we are in the house we will do the cabinet hardware too. Knobs and pulls are the fastest way to change a kitchen, but they only look right if every hole is drilled to the same point on every door, which is where a weekend of it usually goes wrong. We jig them so they line up, and we can convert old cabinet hinges to soft close at the same time.
Knobs and pulls
Cabinet door handle installation across a whole kitchen, drilled to a jig so nothing is a few millimetres out.
Knob to handle changes
Changing cabinet knobs to handles means new holes. We fill and touch up the old ones where we can.
Soft-close conversion
Replacing kitchen cabinet hinges with soft close, including Blum and IKEA hinges and awkward corner cabinets.
Worth bundling. Cabinet hardware on its own is rarely worth a visit, but it costs very little while we are already there doing the doors.
