How to Tell the Best Moving Companies From the Rest

Star ratings alone are close to useless — they are easy to buy and easy to farm. Four things are harder to fake. One: a verifiable USDOT number, ours is 4454165. Two: published pricing, so you can compare before you hand over your phone number. Three: whether the company owns its trucks and employs its crews, or brokers your job out. Four: whether the quote is binding, or an estimate that grows on moving day.

Ours: $140/hr for a 2-man crew, $200/hr for 3, $260/hr for 4, a 3-hour minimum, and one truck and equipment fee of $120 up to a 2-bedroom or $160 for a 3-bedroom and larger. Locally owned, our own trucks, background-checked crews, and the price agreed before we lift a box. Compare that against whoever else you are considering — that is the point of putting it here.

Whether you searched for the best movers, the best moving company, or the best moving companies in Seattle, the useful comparison is the same four checks: licensing, published price, own crews, binding quote. Studio to 4-bedroom, across the greater Puget Sound.

Best Movers in Seattle — FAQ

How do I actually compare moving companies?
Get the price structure in writing from each one before you compare anything else — hourly rate, crew size, minimum hours, truck fee, and what triggers an extra charge. Most complaints about movers are not about the headline rate, they are about the fees that were never mentioned. Then check the USDOT number and read the one-star reviews rather than the five-star ones.
What are the warning signs of a bad mover?
A quote given without asking the size of your home. A large deposit demanded in cash. No USDOT number, or one that does not match the company name. A price described as an estimate with no ceiling. And a company that cannot tell you whether the crew arriving is employed by them.
Do the best movers cost more?
Not usually, because the cheap quote is often the one that grows. Ours is $140/hr for a 2-man crew, $200/hr for 3, $260/hr for 4, 3-hour minimum, plus a $120 or $160 truck and equipment fee depending on home size. That is the full structure. What you are buying at that price is that it does not change on the day.
Are your reviews real?
They are Google reviews left by customers, and we would rather you read them there than take our word for a number on a landing page. Ask us for the link, or search Next Phase Moving on Google Maps.
What is a binding quote and why does it matter?
A binding quote is a price the mover has to honour. A non-binding estimate is a guess they can revise on moving day, and that is where most bad experiences start. We agree one price before we start, and if the job turns out bigger than described we tell you before doing the extra work, not after.
Do you do same-day and last-minute moves?
Often, yes, and with no rush fee. Short notice is normal work for us rather than an exception. Tell us the date and we will tell you immediately what is actually open.
Which areas do you serve?
Seattle, the Eastside, South King County, Snohomish County, Tacoma, Olympia and the greater Puget Sound. If you are outside that, we will say so rather than waste your time.
