The Art of
Piano Moving
A grand piano is a masterpiece of engineering under immense tension—roughly 20 tons of string tension, to be exact. Moving it isn't about muscle; it's about physics, leverage, and respect.
Unlike general movers, our piano specialists are trained to disassemble the lyre (pedals), remove the lid hinges safely, and navigate the unique center of gravity that makes pianos so dangerous to move.

The Piano Board
We don't just roll them. Grands are strapped to a padded skid board (piano board) that acts as a spine during transport, protecting the rim from stress fractures.
Climate Control
Wood breathes. Drastic temp changes detune pianos instantly. Our trucks are climate-regulated to ensure your soundboard stays stable.
Floor Protection
Pianos have immense point-weight (lbs per sq inch). We use neoprene runners and Masonite to ensure your hardwood floors are never dented.
How We Move Your Piano
Every piano move follows our proven 4-step protocol to ensure your instrument arrives safely.
Site Survey
We assess stairways, doorways, turns, and floor surfaces. We'll know the challenges before moving day.
Prep & Wrap
Lid closed and locked. Keys secured. Legs removed (grands). Full pad-wrap protection applied.
Transport
Secured to piano board and loaded into climate-controlled truck. Strapped at multiple points.
Setup
Reassembled, positioned exactly where you want it, and inspected together before we leave.
Common Inquiries
Yes. While we move pianos gently, the change in humidity and atmospheric pressure between locations will affect the wood and string tension. We recommend waiting 2-3 weeks for the piano to acclimate to its new home before hiring a tuner.
Generally, no. Spiral staircases rarely accommodate the length of the piano board required to move a grand piano safely. However, we can perform a site survey to determine if a crane hoist through a balcony or window is a viable alternative.
Absolutely. We carry specific cargo insurance tailored for high-value musical instruments. For pianos valued over $50,000, we can provide additional certificates of insurance (COI) upon request.
Cost depends on the piano type (upright vs grand), distance, and access difficulty (stairs, tight turns, etc.). Local moves typically range from $300-$800. We provide free, no-obligation quotes after assessing your specific situation.
